Marathon

"Your pace, your race" is the prevailing rule of the game. There are several thousand runners out there with different goals in mind, but our feelings are one --"we are going to make it." The volunteers also share this goal, and I can never thank them enough for pulling me through every time.

Finishing my first marathon (Detroit) with Robert, who really pulled me through for the final 6 miles

Marathon Log
1
Detroit International (1997)
5:20:17
Dealt with a knee injury sustained 3 weeks ago (rock climbing class) which kept me from running my race.
2
Detroit International (1998)
4:31:39
Mysteriously, the official certificate says I ran it in 3:18:28!!
3
Twin Citites Marathon (2001)
4:31:53
Time is deceiving -- The best run I have experienced so far.
4
Twin Citites Marathon (2002)
4:50:12
Time does tell the story -- it just wasn't my day! Drinking two days before the run (and getting hangover the day before) at my friends place did not help
5
Chicago Marathon (2003)
4:38:44
Smartest run I have had -- and the best finish in terms of percentile rank (62%) so far.
6
Grandma's Marathon (2005)
5:31:44
Most ill-prepared marathon. All I could say is "I finished."
7
Chicago Marathon (2005)
4:50:13
Felt decent but it took more time than I thought. Perhaps taking pictures along the way and talking to people cost me a few minutes.
8
Inaugural Tokyo Marathon (2007)
5:10:32
Had a fair run considering this was the most streneous marathon-day weather condition I've experienced physically -- 39 degrees, steady rain throughout
9
Tokyo Marathon (2008)
5:20:10
Second time was a charm -- great weather, great run mentally and physically for the most part. Would count this as one of my three best runs.
10
Tokyo Marathon (2010)
5:20:09
Maybe I hit the bottom!! This makes me want to run another marathon! (data)
11
Inaugural Kyoto Marathon (2012)
5:11:30
First-ever Kyoto Marathon was a real charm. The only regret was a congestion due to water station, which easily added 10 minutes to the time.(data)
12
Osaka Marathon (2012)
4:54:24
Best net time since 2005. Surely, the body fat reduction program and a proper diet did the work. First marathon ever that I did not experience any slowdown due to pulled muscles or energy drain. Really loved the strong finish! (data)
13
Inaugural Guan International Marathon (2013)
5:06:45

Started at 4 a.m. to avoid the hot temperature of the day, but still got a plenty of sun at the end! (data)

14
Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Marathon (2014)
5:33:00
Recovering from a broken ankle procedure in April, it wasn't until a week before the race I stareted running on a threadmill. A fast recovery during the week lured me into giving it a try, and the luck was on my side this day! (data)
15
Fujisan Marathon (2014)
4:55:16
The last 5 miles ended up earning the fastest laptime of the day -- the first time this ever happened in my marathon history. (data)
16
Inaugural Toyama Marathon (2015)
4:51:14
Another inaugural marathon is in the books. Blessed by a beautiful fall weather, the time was the best since 2005. (data)
17
Tokyo Marathon (2016)
4:55:50
Garmin tracking data indicates the second half of the marathon was stronger (and it felt easier, too) than the first despite a hot Februrary afternoon. I think I have established a prep. routine here.
